Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the “Logistics Ease Across Different State (LEADS) 2023” report in a ceremony attended by key industry representatives and government officials.
The report, designed to offer strategic insights, was lauded by Minister Goyal for its potential to drive revolutionary reforms in the logistics sector. He emphasised the role of LEADS in shaping a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and providing valuable guidance to stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Goyal expressed optimism about LEADS catalysing states and union territories, fostering healthy competition to elevate logistics performance. He underscored pivotal initiatives like PM GatiShakti, the conferral of ‘industry’ status to logistics, and the focus on digitalisation, multimodal connectivity, and green logistics.
Minister Goyal stressed the need for skill development, capacity building, formalisation of logistics policies, and the implementation of monitoring frameworks.
LEADS, conceived in 2018, incorporates both perception and objectivity in its evaluation, setting it apart from the Logistics Performance Index of the World Bank. The 2023 report, based on a pan-India survey and over 750 stakeholder consultations, offers a comprehensive evaluation, signaling positive shifts in states’ logistics performance across key pillars.
Performance highlights from LEADS 2023 were categorised into Coastal Group, Landlocked Group, North-East Group, and Union Territories, recognising achievers, fast movers, and aspirers in each segment.
The report’s launch event featured insightful sessions on leveraging data and technologies for efficient logistics and promoting green and sustainable logistics practices. The LEADS 2023 report is poised to play a pivotal role in propelling India’s logistics sector towards a 10-fold growth target from USD 3.5 trillion to USD 35 trillion by 2047.
