Tata Sons-owned Tata Advanced Systems has won the contract from Airbus to manufacture cargo and bulk cargo doors of the Airbus A320neo passenger aircraft and its variants. These doors will be manufactured in a new facility in Hyderabad with the help of world-class robotics and automation technology. Each shipset will have one door for bulk cargo and two cargo doors.
The Air India Group, Indigo, and GoAir are the existing clients of Airbus using the A320 aircraft series. Air India placed an unprecedented order in February for 470 aircraft, of which 210 will be from the A320neo series. IndiGo is also slated to receive 300 A320neo aircraft from Airbus.
Airbus currently sources components and services worth $735 million yearly from over 100 Indian suppliers, creating almost 10,000 jobs in India, which will rise to 15,000 by 2025. In addition, the aircraft company and Tata Advanced Systems will begin manufacturing C-295 military aircraft in Gujarat, for which they have already received a land allocation from the government. Besides Airbus, Tata Advanced Systems has partnered with Boeing to manufacture the tail fin for Boeing 737 MAX, floor beams for the Boeing 787, and fuselages for the Apache strike helicopters.
