Rajiv Jalota, the current Chairman, Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) and Indian Ports Association, has taken the additional responsibility of Director General of Shipping under the Ministry of Shipping. He succeeds Amitabh Kumar, IRS, who bid adieu to the post in February 2023 after seven and a half years.
Rajiv has been serving in the current post since November 4th, 2020. He has served as Managing Director, SICOM, Maharashtra, followed by his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for three years. Afterwards, he joined as Commissioner of Employment and Self Employment of Maharashtra State. He served as the Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) for the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in 2011, where he was in charge of Finance and Budget, Assessment and Collection Department, and Water Supply and Sewerage Management. He introduced the Capital Value System in Property Tax during his tenure. He joined as Commissioner, Sales Tax for Maharashtra in January 2015 and has been a part of the GST Law and Policy-making process for over three years. He was responsible for implementing GST in Maharashtra. Before joining MbPT, he was the Additional Chief Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Maharashtra.
Rajiv is a Master of Science in Chemistry from Lucknow University. He joined Indian Administrative Service in 1988. He pursued Masters in International Development Policy from Duke University in the US.
