State-owned NBCC has successfully secured a project management consultancy contract worth Rs. 1,500 crore for the development of 1,469 warehouses and associated agricultural infrastructure.
The substantial deal, sanctioned by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) across multiple states, contributes to the realisation of the “World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in Cooperative Sector.” The scope of work encompasses construction at various locations throughout India, signifying a crucial investment in the nation’s agricultural and logistical capabilities.
This initiative gained impetus in May with the Union Cabinet’s approval for the establishment and empowerment of an inter-ministerial committee. This committee aims to facilitate the colossal “World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in Cooperative Sector” by synergising schemes from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
The project’s scale and significance underline its pivotal role in fortifying India’s agricultural landscape and logistical resilience.
