India’s MSME exports soar, reaching ₹12.39 lakh crore in 2024-25, strengthening global trade and economic growth.
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India have shown exceptional growth, with exports rising from ₹3.95 lakh crore in 2020-21 to ₹12.39 lakh crore in 2024-25. The number of MSMEs engaged in exports has also increased significantly, from 52,849 in 2020-21 to 1,73,350 in 2024-25. The MSME sector now accounts for 45.79% of India’s total exports, up from 45.73% in 2023-24, underlining its growing influence on the nation’s trade performance.
The sector’s contribution to India’s GDP has also been substantial, with MSMEs accounting for 29.6% of the Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2021-22. Even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, MSMEs maintained a steady contribution, further proving their resilience.
The rapid growth is reflected in the scaling up of micro and small enterprises to medium enterprises. From 2020 to 2024, thousands of enterprises transitioned, demonstrating the dynamic and expanding nature of India’s MSME sector. This growth positions MSMEs as a cornerstone of India’s economic future, driving innovation, employment, and global competitiveness.
