BLR Airport maintains its top position in India’s perishable exports with 63,188 tonnes in FY 2023-24.
Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB/BLR Airport) has once again secured its position as India’s leading airport for exporting perishables, achieving this status for the fourth consecutive year. In FY 2023-24, BLR Airport recorded a total perishable cargo tonnage of 63,188 tonnes, marking an 18 percent year-on-year growth. The airport handled 28 percent of the country’s total perishable exports and 44 percent of South India’s perishable cargo.
A standout performer in poultry product exports, BLR Airport shipped 47,041 tonnes of poultry in FY 2023-24. The airport also exported 2,050 tonnes of flowers, with poultry, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and flowers being the leading categories.
Satyaki Raghunath, COO of Bangalore International Airport, expressed pride in the airport’s growth and leadership, attributing the success to an unbroken cold chain and the trust of partners and customers. He highlighted the airport’s 44 percent share in South India’s perishable cargo exports and its role as a key gateway to South and Central India.
The airport’s network ensures seamless transportation to over 100 global destinations, including Oman, Singapore, Qatar, UAE, Maldives, UK, and Kuwait, enhancing the export capacity of southern India and ensuring fresh produce reaches international markets efficiently.
BLR Airport also boasts WFS BLR Coolport, India’s first integrated on-airport Perishable Handling Centre with a terminal capacity of 40,000 tonnes. This facility offers on-site regulatory services, including plant and animal quarantine inspections, a drug controller lab, and Indian Customs, catering exclusively to perishable cold chain cargo.
