Kazakhstan takes a significant stride in cross-border logistics with the inauguration of a new storage facility, signaling a strategic move to bolster the Alakol road crossing’s capabilities.
Deputy Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov announced plans to establish similar hubs for processing and storing cargo in the future, marking the opening of the first hub on the eastern borders at the Dostyk entry point on the East Kazakhstan and Europe border.
The newly unveiled storage facility is poised to triple the capacity of the Alakol checkpoint under the Dostyk customs, elevating the daily handling of freight vehicles from 200 to 600. This expansion is expected to catapult the daily cargo turnover from 4,000 to 12,000 tons, contributing to an overall surge in cargo turnover from 1 to 3 million tons.
The development aligns with Kazakhstan’s efforts to accommodate the rising cargo volume from China to Europe, reflecting a 27 percent share of Kazakhstan’s transit traffic, equivalent to 6.2 million tons, as highlighted by Transport Minister Marat Karabayev in November of the previous year.
