Piyush Goyal urges green practices, tech adoption, and skill development for logistics.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, stressed the importance of 100% integration of industry stakeholders with government platforms to enhance the logistics sector. Speaking at the ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0 Awards Ceremony, Shri Goyal called for sustainability at the core of India’s logistics ecosystem, advocating for electric mobility, biofuels, and multimodal transport to reduce carbon impact.
The Minister also emphasised the role of government, private sector, and academia collaboration to strengthen skill development in logistics. He highlighted the need for infrastructure innovation, quicker road building techniques, and AI-driven solutions to prevent time and cost overruns in logistics projects. He further proposed regular hackathons every three months to foster innovation, labelling this approach as an inclusive, ‘Sabka Prayas’ model aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
The ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0, launched in September 2024, saw an overwhelming 4,751 registrations. The hackathon focused on five key areas: data-driven optimisation, tech-driven logistics, operational efficiency, digital transformation, and sustainable logistics. 72 participants were shortlisted, with 25 finalists presenting their solutions on December 20, 2024. The event marked a collaboration between NLDSL, Atal Innovation Mission, and Start-up India, focusing on innovation in the logistics sector.
In the hackathon’s competitive finale, proposals addressed critical challenges like accident hotspot mapping, sustainable supply chain management, cargo insurance, and digital transformation in logistics. The event included a ₹20 lakh cash prize pool, with top winners awarded for innovative solutions that will help shape the future of logistics in India.
