IndiGo announced plans to commence operations at the newly constructed Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya. The inaugural flight from Delhi to Ayodhya is scheduled for December 30, 2023, with full-fledged commercial services beginning on January 6, 2024.
The airline’s decision follows the recent declaration by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia that the Ayodhya airport will be operational by the end of this month. The airport inauguration is expected to be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed enthusiasm about these new flights connecting Delhi and Ahmedabad to Ayodhya. This expansion marks Ayodhya as the airline’s 86th domestic destination, showcasing the strategic importance of connecting the holy city to the country’s aviation network.
