Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari affirmed on Monday that the work on Dwarka Expressway would be concluded shortly, offering commuters seamless movement across the National Capital Region (NCR) and improved connectivity to other states through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Once operational, the road project, along with the urban extension road 2 from Alipur to Mahipalpur, will alleviate the traffic burden on the Delhi-Jaipur national highway and enhance commuting within NCR.
Gadkari emphasised that the final phase of the road project is underway and nearing completion. Dwarka Expressway’s launch will enable residents of Dwarka and Old Gurugram to reach Jaipur via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in just two hours, significantly reducing the current travel time.
Additionally, an eight-lane underground and eight-lane above-ground network near Shiv Murti in Delhi is being built, facilitating faster travel for motorists from Gurugram, Indira Gandhi International Airport, south and west Delhi to Chandigarh and beyond.
The Outer Ring Road (urban extension road 2) from IGI Airport to Alipur will also be finished within the next six months, shortening the travel time between the two points to just 20 minutes.
Dwarka Expressway is divided into four packages, with 18.9km in Haryana and 10.1km in Delhi. The project, which began in 2018, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. With the Union Transport Minister urging NHAI officials to expedite the work, the project’s progress has accelerated to meet the set deadlines.
