Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, witnessed a significant milestone as the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) embarked on its first official visit to the region in July 2023. Hosted by the Ethiopian Freight Forwarder and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA), the visit aimed to foster collaboration with key stakeholders in the rapidly growing region.
EFFSAA, a proactive FIATA Association Member in Africa and the Middle East, received praise for its active role in promoting the FIATA diploma in freight forwarding, with over 180 certificates awarded. The association’s efforts to enhance training standards were acknowledged, and FIATA Director General Stéphane Graber emphasised the importance of capacity building and digitalisation in the region.
During the visit, FIATA engaged with Ethiopian government officials and explored prominent facilities, including Ethiopian Airlines’ advanced cargo facilities. Discussions focused on digitalisation, supply chain enhancement, and the potential for Ethiopia to host a future FIATA World Congress. The visit also facilitated discussions on a comprehensive Global Air Cargo Programme, aligning with FIATA’s commitment to advancing airfreight frameworks worldwide.
