Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya marked 173ʳᵈ Rail Transport Day with events honoring Indian Railways’ historic journey.

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) commemorated the 173ʳᵈ National Rail Transport Day on April 16, 2025, celebrating 172 years since India’s first passenger train journey. The event aimed to honour the enduring legacy and modernization of Indian Railways, pivotal to the nation’s passenger and freight movement.
The celebration was graced by Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad, Member of the Court of GSV, as the chief guest. She reflected on the Gaekwar’s Baroda State Railway and praised recent advancements like the Pamban Bridge as symbols of engineering excellence.

Vice Chancellor Manoj Choudhary opened the event by spotlighting GSV’s commitment to industry-academia collaboration for future-ready education.
Keynote addresses included insights from Rajesh Prasad, former Director (Operations) at Rail Vikas Nigam, who traced the evolution of Indian Railways from 1853 to its electrified present. Mahendra Kumar, Director (Electrical & Rolling Stock) at NCRTC, highlighted the transformative impact of Regional Rapid Transit Systems on regional connectivity.
