Centre greenlights export of 99,150 tonnes of onions to neighboring countries, after over four months ban.
The Centre has granted permission to export 99,150 tonnes of onions to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bahrain, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and the UAE. The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution announced that National Cooperative Exports (NCEL) would oversee onion exports to these six nations.
This decision comes after the ban on onion exports imposed by the Centre in December last year, which had sparked discontent among onion farmers and led to fluctuations in wholesale prices across various markets.
Expressing gratitude, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis took to the social media platform X to thank PM Narendra Modi for facilitating the resumption of onion exports.
