According to a recent document made public by the Center, Amrit Lal Meena (IAS) has been appointed as the Officer on Special Duty, Ministry of Coal, by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet. With effect from October 31st, 2022, he will assume control of the position and succeed Anil Kumar Jain (IAS). As a measure specifically for them, the Appointments Committee approved the in-situ promotion of numerous officers to the level of Special Secretary in rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
Sumita Dawra (IAS), who would advance from the position of Additional Secretary, DPIIT, to Special Secretary, DPIIT, is one such officer.
Our sources indicate that Dawra will most likely step into Meena’s shoes. Dawra has more than 20 years of experience in public administration, both in India and overseas. She has served as the head of the economic wing at the Indian Embassy and with the Ministry of Finance, including a three-and-a-half-year stint in China.
