Union Minister, Shri Nitin Gadkari chairs a review meeting on national highway progress and maintenance across Punjab, Delhi and Haryana ahead of the monsoon season.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of National Highway projects covering 4,335 km in Punjab and 3,332 km in Delhi and Haryana at a meeting held in New Delhi on May 26, 2026. The review was conducted based on inputs received through media and social media platforms and was attended by Union Ministers of State Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and project contractors. Gadkari directed officials and contractors to accelerate on-ground execution, strengthen coordination and maintain strict adherence to project timelines. He instructed agencies to adopt modern construction technologies and best engineering practices to enhance the durability and long-term performance of national highway assets.
Gadkari underlined the need to improve riding quality and ensure seamless connectivity across key highway corridors in the three regions, calling for greater accountability in maintenance operations and regular inspections to identify and address deficiencies in a timely manner. On monsoon preparedness, he directed all concerned agencies to implement advance measures across project stretches, including effective drainage management, slope protection and swift response mechanisms to minimise disruptions and ensure commuter safety. He further instructed agencies to remain vigilant and address waterlogging, erosion and other weather-related challenges proactively to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement during the monsoon season.
