Pune airport cargo rose 23.8% in 2025, driven by auto parts and pharma, hitting 49,718 tonnes as logistics demand grew.

Pune airport recorded a significant rise in freight operations throughout 2025, strengthening its status as a vital logistics centre for western India. Official statistics reveal that the facility managed 49,718.7 tonnes of cargo during the year, representing a 23.8 percent climb from the 40,149.6 tonnes handled in 2024.
The upward trend was primarily fueled by internal trade, with domestic shipments reaching 49,595.2 tonnes in 2025, up from 40,028.3 tonnes the year prior.
Airport director Santosh Dhoke noted that the priority during 2025 was establishing a reliable framework for those involved in the supply chain. He stated that through modernised infrastructure, enhanced systems, and closer collaboration with carriers and freight partners, the city is becoming a favoured regional hub for logistics.
Automotive components represented the largest portion of the freight, making up roughly 30 percent of domestic shipments. Pharmaceuticals and medical supplies accounted for another 30 percent, while perishable goods including produce, flowers, and livestock contributed 25 percent.
Monthly records show steady progress over the twelve-month period, with the most intense activity occurring during the latter half of the year, specifically throughout September, October, and November. In contrast, overseas freight volumes remained low, totalling 123.5 tonnes.
The modernisation of the site in 2025, including the transition to a fresh terminal, bolstered behind-the-scenes functions such as freight handling and power consistency.
Sagar Chintal, an exporter based in the city, remarked that the expanded capacity is assisting commercial expansion, as quicker processing and better reliability allow goods to reach consumers more efficiently.
