Trump says the US is “pretty close” to a trade deal with India and will “at some point” reduce the current high tariff rate on Indian goods.

President Donald Trump declared that the US was “pretty close” to a trade agreement with New Delhi and that he will lower the tariff rate on Indian exports “at some point.”
“They don’t love me now, but they’ll love us again,” Trump commented. “We’re getting a good deal.”
Trump later added that the countries were pretty close to doing a deal that’s good for everybody.
The remarks were the most recent indication that the trade battle that has strained ties between the US and India may be improving.
Trump raised the taxes on numerous Indian commodities to 50% earlier this year in an effort to put pressure on New Delhi to cease purchasing Russian energy. An already tense dispute over what the US has perceived as India’s high tariffs and other obstacles to American exports was made more tense by this.
However, Trump has claimed in recent weeks that Modi has expressed optimism about trade negotiations and promised to stop buying petroleum from Russia. Trump declared on Monday that “they’ve stopped doing the Russian oil, it’s been reduced very substantially.” “Yes, we will eventually lower the tariffs.”
Speaking at the swearing-in of Sergio Gor, the former head of his personnel office and future US ambassador to India, was Trump. According to Trump, Gor and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi already have a “friendly” connection.
Trump declared, “As ambassador, Sergio will work to strengthen our nation’s bonds, promote investments in key US industries and technologies, increase American energy exports, and expand our security cooperation.”
