From the cockpit of the Indian Air Force to steering a logistics empire, Ramesh Agarwal’s journey is a masterclass in purpose-driven leadership, transforming an industry while quietly shaping lives across India.

Legacy isn’t built in speed; it’s earned through trust and service
A promise that took flight
Before the trucks rolled and the name became familiar across households, Ramesh Agarwal, Managing Director, Agarwal Packers & Movers, wore the uniform of an airman in the Indian Air Force. A friend’s stinging remark during a visit home, “काहे के दोस्त, ना तो काम दे सकते, नाही दिला सकते,” lit a fire in him. That moment sparked a mission: to create opportunities instead of seeking them.
What followed wasn’t just a business but a belief system. “Jhooth Ko Zero Karna, making falsehood zero, has been my guiding principle from the very beginning,” he says. “What we promise, we deliver. That’s why people trust us.” Today, with ₹1800+ crore in turnover and over 7,000 livelihoods supported, the journey stands as a testament to promises honoured and values upheld.
Driving change beyond borders
Leadership, for Agarwal, has never been confined to boardrooms. As National President of the All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA), he championed reforms that reshaped the transport landscape.
One of his proudest achievements! “The National Permit System for heavy commercial vehicles was a game-changer. Earlier, transporters had to obtain separate permits for each state. We changed that.” His persistent engagement with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways led to a seamless, pan-India permit system, empowering drivers and streamlining operations.
Another landmark reform was the exemption of the logistics sector from service tax under the reverse charge and forward charge mechanisms. “This reform significantly reduced the financial burden on transporters and improved compliance clarity for the industry,” he explains. These weren’t just policy wins; they were lifelines for an industry often overlooked.
Rest stops and Ripple effects
For someone who believes “Client is God,” Ramesh Agarwal’s empathy naturally extends to the backbone of logistics: the drivers. His Driver Nidra Daan Kendra initiative wasn’t just about rest; it was about restoring dignity. “With this belief, we established welfare centres for truck drivers. After persistent advocacy, the Government of India has begun creating over 1,000 Driver Seva Kendras nationwide,” he shares with quiet pride.
This isn’t philanthropy for applause; it’s a silent revolution. “Bringing positive change in society is the truest form of service. It is our duty to give back to nature and the community that supports us.”
Lessons from the Long Haul
To newcomers in logistics, Ramesh Agarwal offers no shortcuts, only enduring truths. “Focus on long-term goals and meaningful impact. This industry demands patience, consistency, and integrity more than quick success.” His advice is clear: “Choose what benefits the nation and society; that’s where true fulfilment lies.” In a world obsessed with speed, he reminds us that real impact takes time. “We don’t just move goods; we move trust, relationships, and livelihoods.” His journey isn’t just about building a business; it’s about crafting a legacy, one mile at a time.
