With exports doubling, TEPA opens new doors for Indian coffee in Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland.

Indian coffee exports have witnessed robust growth, doubling in recent years, and are now set to gain fresh momentum with the implementation of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). Announced on International Coffee Day, Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal highlighted that TEPA provides Indian coffee preferential access to premium markets in Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland.
EFTA nations import coffee worth USD 175 million annually, and India now has an opportunity to position its premium, shade-grown, hand-picked, and sun-dried coffees in these high-value markets. Switzerland and Norway, in particular, are major destinations for specialty and high-quality coffees, presenting immense scope for Indian exporters.
Shri Agrawal emphasised that diversification, innovation, and value addition, such as instant and specialty coffee, are essential for sustaining export growth. He also underlined the importance of building “Brand India” to strengthen global recognition. With coffee’s sustainable cultivation in forest ecosystems, India is uniquely positioned to meet the growing demand for responsible and high-quality coffees worldwide.
