Piyush Goyal hails India’s toy export boom; a new scheme is planned to boost design, branding, and global appeal.

India’s toy industry has truly come of age. Once reliant on imports, the sector has now turned the tables, exporting toys to an impressive 153 countries. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal shared this achievement while addressing the 16th Toy Biz International B2B Expo 2025 in New Delhi.
“India’s toy story is changing fast,” said Shri Goyal, crediting the success to strong policy support, quality standards enforcement, and the growth of local manufacturing clusters. The implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO), he noted, has created a culture of quality that now allows Indian toys to meet global standards.
With India’s 1.4 billion-strong population offering a massive home market, the minister emphasised that scale and cost efficiency can propel Indian manufacturers to global competitiveness. “This large domestic base gives our industry the power to grow and compete internationally,” he said.
Shri Goyal called upon the industry to double down on design innovation, packaging, and branding, key ingredients for making Indian toys truly world-class. He also hinted at a new government promotional scheme on the horizon to boost the sector’s growth further, particularly in these areas.
Reflecting on the broader economic narrative, the minister recalled the early days of the Vocal for Local campaign. “Many doubted us when Prime Minister Modi pushed for Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said. “But today, local is going global, and toys are a perfect example.”
The minister also highlighted the role of startups and small businesses, many of which have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, now extended to 20 years. The MSME Ministry has supported 18 toy clusters across the country, giving wings to grassroots manufacturing.
With another government scheme in the pipeline aimed at scaling design capabilities and strengthening global competitiveness, Shri Goyal expressed strong confidence that India’s toy industry is set to become a global force.
From being an import-heavy market to becoming a creative and competitive exporter, India’s toy industry is living proof of how focused policy, market opportunity, and a spirit of innovation can shape a brighter future.
