Sonowal and Bødskov discuss green shipping, the new Centre of Excellence, and green corridors during the Copenhagen meet.

In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation, India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, met with Morten Bødskov, Denmark’s Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, during his official visit to Copenhagen on June 5–6, 2025.
The leaders reviewed ongoing maritime collaboration under the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed commitments under the 2024 MoU on Maritime Affairs, including the establishment of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Green Shipping.
Highlights from the Meeting:
- Both ministers reiterated the vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to accelerate green transformation in the maritime sector.
- The Centre of Excellence in Green Shipping aims to enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability in maritime operations, aligning with India’s Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and its ambition to become a global green shipping hub.
- The ministers agreed on the development of green shipping corridors as a priority for India.
- A pre-feasibility study for these corridors will be conducted by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping, using its proven methodology.
- The study will identify the most promising green corridor routes in India, with close coordination between the Centre, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and other relevant Indian ministries.
The meeting marked a concrete step in scaling up Indo-Danish cooperation in sustainable maritime innovation and carbon-neutral trade routes.
