Swiss shipping giant MSC progresses in its acquisition of Clasquin, enhancing its foothold in the international air and sea freight forwarding sector.
MSC, a prominent Swiss shipping company, has taken strides toward acquiring Clasquin, a renowned international air and sea freight forwarder based in Lyon, France. According to a statement from Clasquin, MSC subsidiary SAS Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl has initiated a put option agreement to secure 42.06 percent of Clasquin’s share capital.
The completion of this transaction, slated for later this year pending regulatory clearances, is expected to be followed by a tender offer for the remaining shares, as stated by Clasquin’s release. With a focus on bespoke air cargo solutions, Clasquin specialises in transporting luxury items, cosmetics, fashion products, perishables, and pharmaceuticals.
MSC’s strategic move aligns with its expansion into the air freight market, exemplified by the launch of MSC Air Cargo in 2022 and subsequent network development plans across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Additionally, MSC’s growing logistics arm witnessed significant expansion with the acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics, now Africa Global Logistics (AGL), in late 2022, showcasing the company’s commitment to diversifying its service offerings and global reach.
