Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) intensifies efforts to expand exports to new destinations, focusing on One District One Product (ODOP) and Geographical Indication (GI) items.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is proactively advancing its export strategy, targeting diverse markets for Scheduled products. Special attention is dedicated to One District One Product (ODOP) and Geographical Indication (GI) items, sourced from non-traditional areas and states.
Currently, APEDA’s scheduled products find their way to over 203 countries/territories globally, with more than 27 flag-offs organised in the current financial year to bolster this trajectory.
APEDA is actively engaged in capacity-building initiatives for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), recognising their crucial role in aggregating farm produce and streamlining the supply chain. Over the past five years, APEDA has transformed 119 FPOs/FPCs into exporters, empowering them to navigate global markets and ensuring efficient market access for farmers.
In collaboration with the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), APEDA is spearheading an initiative to develop sea protocols customised for exporting fresh produce to distant markets. This strategic move aims to optimise the export process for fresh fruits, facilitating cost-effective transportation. Trial shipments of mangoes and pomegranates to the USA and the European Union are in the pipeline, building on the success of shipping bananas to the Netherlands in November and Russia in January.
The implementation of sea protocols is poised to significantly boost exports of bananas, mangoes, pomegranates, and other fresh fruits and vegetables, further elevating India’s global presence in agricultural markets.
