Akasa Air has made a significant stride in the aviation industry by placing a substantial order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at the prestigious Wings India 2024 event in Hyderabad. The comprehensive order comprises 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 variants, with deliveries scheduled until 2032. This move is part of Akasa Air’s strategic plan to amplify its domestic and international operations.
Initially, in 2021, the airline ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, encompassing the 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 8-200 variants. Subsequently, in June 2023, the airline expanded its commitment with an additional 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The latest order elevates Akasa Air’s total aircraft order book to an impressive 226, establishing it as the sole Indian airline with an order book exceeding 200 aircraft within just 17 months of commencing operations.
The airline’s fleet, currently comprising 22 aircraft, is set to receive 204 additional aircraft over the next eight years. Notably, Akasa Air opted not to include the Boeing 737 MAX 9 variant in the new order, aligning with the airline’s focus on sustainability. The 737 MAX family, renowned for its increased range and fuel efficiency, contributes to a 20 percent reduction in fuel use and carbon emissions.
