The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways faces criticism from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture, led by V Vijayasai.
The committee’s report, presented in Parliament, highlights persistent shortcomings in achieving National Monetisation Pipeline targets. It recommends realistic goal-setting and efficient resource utilisation.
Addressing road safety, the committee proposes anti-sleep devices in vehicles to prevent accidents due to driver fatigue. Prioritising accident-prone black spots based on severity and introducing key performance indicators for eradication efforts are also suggested.
The report urges coordination with the Ministry of Animal Husbandry to prevent animal-related accidents. The committee emphasises expediting land acquisition processes through a streamlined portal and expresses concern over the National Highways Authority of India’s 37 percent vacancy rate, urging prompt hiring for organisational efficiency.
