In a strategic move to enhance the cost-efficiency and sustainability of its deliveries, Amazon India has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).
The initiative aims to leverage inland waterways for reducing transportation costs and environmental impact. Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, highlighted the focus on making water transport a viable alternative for both bulk carriage and time-sensitive deliveries.
The collaboration will kick off with a pilot run on the Patna to Kolkata water route, extending delivery capabilities to water-locked areas that are challenging to access through traditional means. This partnership further strengthens Amazon’s logistics network, complementing existing collaborations with Indian Railways and India Post.
