India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, announced a significant achievement during his visit to Arunachal Pradesh. In the past nine years, eight airports have been established in the Northeast region, including four in Arunachal Pradesh: Pasighat, Zero, Hollongi, and Tezu.
This remarkable progress comes after the state lacked any airports as recently as 2014. Overall, the Northeast region, which had only nine airports throughout India’s 66 years of independence, now boasts 17 airports due to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
Minister Scindia envisions the Northeast as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision. The development of Tezu airport, costing Rs.170 crore and covering 212 acres, includes runway extensions, a new apron, a terminal building, and a fire station cum ATC Tower.
This transformation, undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), enhances connectivity and regional development.
