IAS Officer Vipin Kumar, previously an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Education, assumes AAI Chairmanship.
Vipin Kumar, an IAS officer from the 1996 Bihar cadre, has been appointed Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), officially taking office today. Known for his leadership in the Department of School Education & Literacy, where he advanced major initiatives like the National Education Policy-2020 and the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, Kumar brings a wealth of experience to AAI.
With a technical background in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Kumar combines expertise in administration and technology. His vision aligns with the “Viksit Bharat-2047” goals set by the Prime Minister, focusing on expanding world-class airport infrastructure, enhancing navigation services, and elevating passenger amenities across the nation.
AAI, established by Parliament in 1995, operates and manages India’s civil aviation infrastructure, overseeing 133 airports and delivering air navigation services across 2.8 million square nautical miles. Under Kumar’s leadership, AAI’s recent achievements in managing over 1 million aircraft movements and serving 130 million passengers in 2023-24 set a strong foundation for future advancements in India’s aviation sector.
