In anticipation of the upcoming assembly election, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has revealed his intent to kickstart the expansion of the metro corridor in Jaipur. His focus is on extending the existing corridor, with plans to lay the foundation stone in September.
This expansion includes the 2.85km Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar route and the 1.33km Mansarovar to Ajmer Road route. Estimated at Rs 980 crore and Rs 204 crore respectively, construction starts post the foundation ceremony. The extension seeks to connect Ajmer and Agra Roads through a 4.85km addition, enhancing the 12km east-west corridor.
While Chief Minister Gehlot mentioned the availability of a detailed project report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase-II, which proposes a 23.5km corridor linking India Gate and Ambabari on Tonk Road, he refrained from specifying a project launch date. Inside sources from the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) advocate for prioritising Phase-II implementation to address city congestion, with projected ridership exceeding 2,08,926 by 2031.
