Qatar Airways Cargo divests the final 747-8Fs to UPS, shifting focus to 777F operations.
Qatar Airways Cargo has completed the sale of its last two Boeing 747-8Fs to UPS, marking a strategic shift in its operations towards focusing exclusively on the 777F. The move reflects Qatar’s commitment to streamlining its fleet for optimal efficiency and sustainability. UPS, in turn, acquired the 747-8Fs as part of its strategy to replace some of its MD-11s and enhance its fleet capabilities. Reports earlier indicated Qatar’s withdrawal of the 747-8Fs from its fleet, with one aircraft already registered under UPS in the US. This transition underscores the evolving dynamics within the air cargo industry, with airlines adapting their strategies to meet changing market demands. Brian Newman, UPS’ Chief Financial Officer, confirmed the acquisition during an analyst call, highlighting the company’s broader objective to improve operational efficiency and sustainability. UPS, known for its diverse fleet, including Boeing 767-300F and Boeing 757-200PF aircraft, continues to invest in modernising its fleet composition to maintain its competitive edge in the market.
