Sujeet Vichare, Sr. Sourcing Manager, WorkStore, Lightening Division -RLT, opines, that multinational companies like Amazon, DHL, Maersk, and others encouraged Indian warehouse operators to raise standards and catch up with international standards in the warehousing industry. “Although there is still a long way to go, I am optimistic that we will succeed by the middle of the year.”
The availability of competent labour is one of the major issues, according to Vichare. While the current government is striving to improve road infrastructure, which is commendable, we also need to make warehouse management and similar courses available to workers.
According to him, the new National Logistics Policy, which has been long overdue, will greatly benefit India’s storage industry. It would strengthen India’s warehousing industry. Grade-A warehouses are crucial for hi-tech industries, particularly automotive, aerospace, and semiconductor, but their operation requires qualified labour, thus training institutions must provide relevant courses.
Vichare emphasises that scale of operations, proper use of technology, and automation all contribute to lower logistical costs.
