MSC Air Cargo is currently engaged in discussions to acquire Italian cargo airline AlisCargo, according to recent reports. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the shipping group’s air cargo division, is reportedly seeking to purchase the airline. MSC has confirmed the ongoing nature of the discussions and stated that additional information will be provided once negotiations and regulatory procedures are finalised.
AlisCargo obtained its AOC in July 2021 and began commercial operations using a B777-200 aircraft configured as a preighter. However, the market conditions have since become unfavorable for preighter operations, and the airline faced challenges after the suspension of its operating license by the Italian civil aviation authority. MSC Air Cargo, on the other hand, has been expanding its fleet and operations, partnering with Atlas Air and establishing its European hub at Liège Airport.
