Maersk transforms its Ponneri warehouse into a women-operated facility, advancing gender equality in logistics.
Maersk has announced the transformation of its container freight station (CFS) warehouse in Ponneri, Chennai, into a women-operated facility, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the station. This initiative marks a significant step in Maersk’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. One entire shift at the 125,000-square-foot warehouse will now be operated by women, employed across various functions such as loading/unloading, security, administration, forklift operations, and more.
This move aligns with India’s push to create equal employment opportunities for women, even in traditionally male-dominated sectors like logistics. Christopher Cook, Managing Director of Maersk South Asia, emphasised that this initiative is about challenging industry norms and setting new standards. Following the success of their first women-operated warehouse in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, Maersk is confident that this effort will promote operational excellence and provide meaningful career opportunities for women in Chennai’s logistics sector.
