Kerala’s logistics policy aims to boost infrastructure and capitalise on Vizhinjam terminal’s potential.
Kerala’s Industries Minister, P Rajeeve, unveiled the state’s draft logistics policy, offering investment subsidies for logistics parks and proposing streamlined approval processes. With a focus on enhancing infrastructure, the policy suggests utilising industrial land for logistics services and implementing skill development programs.
Suman Billa, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department, highlights Kerala’s significant consumption of consumer goods, indicating the state’s potential in specialised logistics sectors. The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) identifies investment opportunities in cold chain logistics, agro-processing, and e-commerce.
Kerala’s extensive transportation networks, including ports, rivers, and airports, position it for multimodal connectivity. S Harikishore, Director of Industries Department, aims to finalise the policy by June, incorporating stakeholder feedback. The policy also emphasises modern warehousing facilities, green packaging solutions, and digitization of logistics operations to enhance efficiency and transparency. Investments in cold chain infrastructure are prioritised to support Kerala’s agricultural and marine product industries, crucial for local economy growth.
