India–U.S. trade officials discuss tariff and non-tariff matters; aim for first-phase agreement by Fall 2025.

Indian and U.S. officials convened in Washington, D.C. from April 23–25, 2025, for the latest round of talks on the India–U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement. Delegates from India’s Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative engaged in extensive discussions on both tariff and non-tariff issues.
Building on the earlier dialogue held in March in New Delhi, the Washington meeting marked significant progress toward concluding the first tranche of the multi-sector agreement by Fall 2025. The two sides explored early mutual benefits and emphasised identifying actionable outcomes to foster economic integration.
While virtual sectoral consultations have laid the groundwork, in-person expert-level meetings are scheduled to begin by the end of May 2025 to fast-track negotiations.
These talks align with the Leaders’ Statement from February 2025, aiming to deepen India–U.S. economic ties and enhance supply chain resilience and trade diversification. The momentum reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two democracies in global commerce.
