Tirupur textile firms see rising global apparel enquiries as Bangladesh faces economic and political hurdles.
Indian textile clusters, particularly in Tirupur, are witnessing a surge in enquiries from global apparel giants such as Primark, Tesco, Decathlon, Duns, JCPenney, GAP, Next, and Walmart. The ongoing economic and political crisis in Bangladesh, marked by dwindling foreign exchange reserves and import challenges, has opened new doors for India’s apparel exporters.
According to Mithileshwar Thakur, Secretary General of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), order conversions for these enquiries are likely to materialise by early 2025. Bangladesh’s struggle to import essential raw materials like cotton and fabric, traditionally sourced from India, underscores the scale of this opportunity.
