DP World inaugurates Cochin Economic Zone, boosting India’s global trade connectivity.
Dubai-based logistics giant DP World announced the commencement of operations at Cochin Economic Zone, Kerala’s first free trade warehousing zone (FTWZ). The 75,000 square foot facility, located within the Vallarpadam terminal at Cochin Port, is DP World’s third economic zone in India, following the Nhava Sheva Business Park in Mumbai and the Integrated Chennai Business Park.
The Cochin Economic Zone aims to enhance the port’s capabilities, being India’s first transshipment terminal, and offers 67 integrated value-added services to optimise supply chain operations. Our goal is to boost global trade by streamlining supply chains, providing cost-effective and seamless connectivity,” stated Ranjit Ray, Senior Vice President – Economic Zones Middle East, North Africa, and Subcontinent at DP World. The facility not only supports EXIM-oriented businesses but also invites global companies to penetrate the Indian market.
The zone provides robust connectivity via three national highways (NH 66, NH 544, and NH 85) and rail access within the port premises, while Cochin airport, just 35 kilometres away, further enhances connectivity. DP World’s strategic multimodal logistics network aims to link ports to broader supply chains, facilitating better trade opportunities and efficiency for businesses engaged in global trade.
