DFDS, a leading logistics firm, bolsters its eco-friendly fleet, ordering 100 electric trucks from Volvo, bringing its total to 225, the largest in Europe.
DFDS, a major shipping and logistics entity in Northern Europe, is escalating its commitment to eco-friendly transport solutions. In a recent move, the company has placed an order for an additional 100 electric trucks from Volvo, marking a significant stride towards its sustainability goals.
With this procurement, DFDS has now amassed a fleet of 225 heavy electric trucks from Volvo, solidifying its position as a trailblazer in environmentally conscious logistics. Presently, 95 Volvo electric trucks are operational across Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Belgium, and the Netherlands, with the remaining 30 slated for delivery in 2024. This expansion has notably contributed to a reduction of 1,516 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2023.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed pride in the enduring partnership with DFDS, emphasising the trust exhibited by the substantial order. The new electric trucks, comprising updated models such as Volvo FH Electric and FM Electric, will be deployed across nine European markets, including the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden.
DFDS, with its ambitious target of electrifying at least 25 percent of its truck fleet by 2030, aims to spearhead sustainable road transport initiatives. Niklas Anderson, EVP of the Logistic Division at DFDS, underscores the strategic importance of expanding the electric fleet, emphasising its role in facilitating the decarbonisation of supply chains.
Additionally, some of the newly acquired electric trucks will support transportation to and from Volvo Trucks’ assembly plant in Gothenburg. Since 2019, Volvo Trucks has been globally distributing electric trucks, catering to diverse transport needs within urban landscapes, offering an extensive lineup of eight electric models across 45 countries and six continents.
