Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the upcoming Chennai Express Highway, set to launch by year-end or January 2024. The highway aims to drastically reduce travel time between Delhi and Chennai to just two hours, a significant boon for commuters. Gadkari also emphasised the broader infrastructure projects in progress, including the Bengaluru-Chennai express highway.
He highlighted the need for electric buses and vehicles, encouraging the industry to explore biofuels and alternative energy sources. Additionally, Ashok Leyland unveiled India’s first electric commercial vehicles in its category, the Switch IeV series, in line with sustainable transportation goals.
Gadkari discussed the potential of hydrogen as an alternative fuel to reduce fossil fuel imports and pollution while boosting India’s global competitiveness. Overall, the Chennai Express Highway promises improved connectivity, reduced travel time, and sustainable transportation solutions for India’s future.
