Air Canada Cargo announces the addition of Chicago O’Hare International Airport to its freighter network.
Air Canada Cargo is set to enhance its freighter network by including Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) from June 2. Operating thrice weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the service will utilise a Boeing 767 freighter, linking Air Canada Cargo’s global hub at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with its self-handled warehouse operation at ORD.
Jon Turner, Air Canada’s Vice President of Cargo, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, emphasising the strategic utilisation of freighters and the extensive reach of Air Canada’s passenger network. Leveraging a robust trucking network in Chicago, the move enhances Air Canada Cargo’s competitive position, ensuring consistent capacity for customers and addressing market demands.
In another recent development, Air Canada inaugurated four Boeing 787-9 flights per week between Vancouver and Singapore Changi airports, with cargo handling services provided by SATS at Singapore Changi. Despite the anticipated release of first-quarter results, Air Canada witnessed a 27 percent year-on-year decline in cargo revenues for full year 2023, attributed to reduced air cargo demand and the loss of capacity from temporary passenger freighters. However, increased operations of purpose-built freighters partially offset this decline, signaling resilience amidst challenges.
