The Jaipur International Airport in India has got the aerodrome license by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and they have decided to use it as an opportunity to expand, a company official claimed.
The Airport Authority of India used to be the license holder up until October 2021. Now, the private player operating the Jaipur airport has become the new licensee holder.
“We have received the Aerodrome license for Jaipur International Airport Limited (JIAL). Now the complete management of the airport lies with us in accordance with the concession agreement. Major customer-centric changes have been made at the airport and now we are looking for expansion,” said a senior official of JIAL.
“The airport management has conducted an extensive survey at Jaipur airport which revealed that passenger traffic of 50 lakh per annum will reach 1 crore by 2025. Considering future requirements, the management is planning to reopen Terminal- 1 which has been non-operational for the last 10 years,” he added.
It is also believed that unscheduled flights like chartered flights and air ambulances and a portion of international flights will be operated from Terminal-1 post its activation.
“Terminal- 1 will be developed on the lines of presently operational Terminal-2. Massive IT-related infrastructure, food and beverage services, and retail outlets, measures for zero carbon emission and environment sustainability, and security arrangements will be in place on the lines of T-2,” he added.
The Jaipur airport is developing a mini-forest near Dudu town where 4,400 trees will be planted and maintained for 5 years. The step is being taken in accordance with the law and in consideration of any damage to the green cover during the T-1 expansion, the official said.
Terminal-2 at the airport has new e-boarding gates and more shops for customers. There are also automated parking and transport. Private car services like WTI, Ola and Uber have set up offices there and work with the airport.
The team is committed to creating a sustainable environment for the future. Planting of saplings, replacing old vehicles with electric ones and adding an electric vehicle charging station for the public will be opened this month at T-2.
New radars and runway visibility systems have been enhanced with the latest technology. Similar facilities are available at T-1’s soon-to-be-opened facilities. A requirement of 240 CISF security personnel has also been raised.
