The report presents a comprehensive assessment of India’s rail parcel logistics sector, identifying key challenges, structural gaps, strategic interventions and a future growth roadmap. It is intended to serve as a reference for policymakers, Indian Railways, logistics companies, industry stakeholders and academia. The report was researched and authored by Vikash Khatri, Founder of Aviral Consulting, together with the Aviral research team, in discussions with CTRAM and covering field visits and industry interactions.
The report was unveiled in the presence of Dr Manoj Singh, Member of the Railway Board for Operations and Business Development, along with Devendra Kumar, Additional Member of Traffic, Deepak Jha, Additional Member of Commercial, Sanjay Mishra, Additional Member of Tourism and Catering, Anil Syal, President of Safexpress and Amit Kumar Singh, Executive Director of CTRAM. Dr Manoj Singh highlighted the growing importance of reliable and time-sensitive parcel transportation in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat, stating that Indian Railways had a pivotal role to play in expanding the country’s express parcel network through customer-centric and integrated logistics solutions. Anil Syal noted that India’s express logistics market remained predominantly road-driven due to customer expectations of speed, predictability and shipment visibility, and that stronger collaboration between Indian Railways and road-based express logistics operators for the middle mile could unlock significant opportunities for the sector.
