IndiaAI Mission aims to boost digital transformation and innovation.
The Government is implementing a series of initiatives to promote the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje said the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is implementing the IndiaAI Mission, approved on March 7, 2024, with an outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore. The Mission comprises seven pillars, including IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Innovation Centre, IndiaAI Datasets Platform, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI Future Skills, IndiaAI Startup Financing and Safe & Trusted AI, aimed at strengthening India’s AI ecosystem and promoting responsible and inclusive AI adoption across sectors, including MSMEs.
The Government stated that the IndiaAI Mission seeks to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs by democratising access to AI technologies. It added that the extent of digital adoption among MSMEs is periodically assessed through evaluation studies conducted in collaboration with industry and research institutions. According to the Government, the Output-Outcome Monitoring Framework (OOMF) of NITI Aayog also serves as an institutional mechanism for evaluating the outcomes of Government interventions aimed at accelerating digital transformation among MSMEs.
