Minister highlights infrastructure, digital and livestock initiatives
Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed the Lok Sabha that the Government is implementing a range of initiatives to strengthen the dairy and livestock sector through infrastructure development, veterinary healthcare, digital livestock management and support for dairy farmers. He said there is no proposal to introduce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk, adding that milk prices are determined by dairy cooperatives and private dairies based on market conditions. The Minister said the Government continues to support dairy farmers through schemes aimed at increasing milk procurement, expanding processing capacity, strengthening village-level dairy cooperative societies, improving milk quality testing facilities and developing dairy infrastructure.
The Minister also said the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) is promoting investment in dairy processing, meat processing, animal feed plants and value-addition infrastructure. Referring to the National Digital Livestock Mission (NDLM), he said every registered animal is assigned a unique 12-digit Tag ID to digitally record vaccination, breeding and veterinary services, while the portal uses AES-256 encryption and Transport Layer Security (TLS) to protect livestock data. He further informed the House that 113 AHIDF projects worth ₹4,700.13 crore have been approved in Maharashtra, with ₹123.46 crore released as interest subvention.
