Prime Minister Narendra Modi opens India’s longest greenfield access-controlled expressway in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh on April 29, 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 594-kilometre access-controlled greenfield Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, on April 29, 2026. The expressway, described as the country’s longest green corridor expressway, was completed in under five years and spans 12 districts from Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east. Modi stated that the expressway “is not merely a high-speed road” but “a gateway to new possibilities, new dreams, and new opportunities,” adding that it would bring the National Capital Region’s economic possibilities closer to the rest of the state.
The Prime Minister highlighted the expressway’s role in boosting agricultural connectivity, noting that farmers in the region had historically struggled to reach major markets due to inadequate logistics infrastructure and cold storage facilities. Industrial corridors are being developed in districts such as Hardoi to attract manufacturing clusters across pharmaceuticals, textiles, handlooms, leather goods and handicrafts.
Modi also referenced UP’s broader economic ambitions, including its target of becoming a one trillion dollar economy, its role as a major hub for mobile manufacturing, a recently groundbroken semiconductor facility in Noida and the presence of one of India’s two defence corridors in the state. He noted that UP’s aviation network has expanded to a planned total of 21 airports including five international facilities, with the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport positioned within hours of the Ganga Expressway corridor.
