Glasgow Prestwick Airport has launched three weekly cargo flights from Hong Kong operated by Ethiopian Airlines, running on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, to strengthen its position as a key UK cargo hub.

New inbound flights from Hong Kong open fresh trade corridors for Scottish exporters across South Korea and Vietnam
Glasgow Prestwick Airport has taken a decisive step in cementing its position as one of the United Kingdom’s foremost cargo gateways, announcing three new weekly cargo flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines from Hong Kong.
Running every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, the service is designed to significantly boost e-commerce volumes flowing into the UK while simultaneously creating new export pathways for Scottish industries.
The development adds considerable weight to Prestwick’s already expanding Asian freight network. The airport currently manages 15 weekly flights connecting to and from China, and the addition of three Hong Kong services brings its total long-haul cargo capacity to a scale capable of facilitating up to GBP 250 million in cross-border trade annually.
The airport’s e-commerce facility has already processed over 25 million parcels, a milestone celebrated earlier this year alongside logistics partners Royal Mail and EVRi. That growth has directly generated over 250 jobs in the region, underscoring the wider economic significance of Prestwick’s cargo ambitions.
Recognising the growth trajectory, Glasgow Prestwick has been shortlisted for Air Freight Business of the Year at this year’s Multimodal Awards.
