NHAI and Konkan Railway sign a five-year pact to build integrated transport logistics and multi-modal freight hubs.

National Highways Authority of India and Konkan Railway Corporation have entered into a formal agreement to drive the integrated development of transport infrastructure across the country. The partnership, established on 21 January 2026, aims to synchronise road and rail planning to create a more cohesive and efficient logistics network.
Under this five-year framework, both organisations will pool their technical expertise to execute complex engineering projects, particularly in difficult geographical terrains. For the cargo and supply chain sectors, this collaboration is expected to significantly enhance freight movement by focusing on the following areas:
- Multi-Modal Connectivity: A primary objective is the joint planning of logistics parks and inter-modal hubs, ensuring seamless transitions for goods moving between national highways and the rail network.
- Infrastructure Synergy: The entities will collaborate on the design and construction of bridges, tunnels, and reinforced slopes, leveraging Konkan Railway’s specialised experience in challenging landscapes to improve road safety and durability.
- Logistics Efficiency: By integrating transport planning, the initiative aims to reduce bottlenecks in the supply chain, particularly regarding first and last-mile connectivity for industrial freight.
- Strategic Land Use: The agreement explores the commercial potential of land parcels for the development of new warehousing facilities and distribution centres situated along key transport corridors.
This strategic alignment is a significant step towards modernising India’s transport logistics, promising more reliable and cost-effective solutions for the movement of heavy and commercial cargo.
