JN Port’s link to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor will finish by March, boosting rail capacity and efficiency.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port is scheduled to achieve full integration with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor by 31 March 2026. This infrastructure milestone follows a high-level review on 11 January 2026, confirming that the final 102 km section connecting the terminal to Vaitarna is nearing completion.
Once this rail link is operational, the facility will be capable of managing up to 100 freight trains daily, a significant rise from the current volume of 27. The project aims to transition container movement from road to rail, targeting an increase in rail cargo share to 30 percent. By bypassing local traffic and utilising high-capacity corridors, the initiative will reduce transit times and logistics expenses for international trade.
This development completes the 1,506 km route to Dadri, establishing a seamless transport network between Maharashtra and northern industrial hubs. The initiative supports national efforts to modernise transport links and improve the environmental footprint of the shipping sector.
