Union Minister Prahlad Joshi inaugurates 435 MW solar plant in Rajasthan, citing it as a model of speed and sustainability.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Prahlad Joshi, inaugurated the 435 MW Gorbea Solar Power Project in Rajasthan, lauding the state as a leader in energy independence and clean power. The project, built by Zelestra India, was completed in under eight months and spans 1,250 acres, backed by a 25-year power agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India.
The plant will generate 755 GWh annually, enough to power 1.28 lakh homes, and cut 7.05 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions each year. Rajasthan now sources nearly 70% of its power from renewables, with 29.5 GW from solar and 5.2 GW from wind.
The project has also empowered over 700 local workers and farmers, who leased their land for income, aligning with India’s broader clean energy goals. Joshi highlighted the use of TOPCon bifacial solar modules and robotic cleaning systems, and encouraged future innovations like Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells.
Rajasthan’s untapped wind potential and rapid reforms under CM Bhajan Lal Sharma were also praised. Joshi affirmed India’s success in achieving 50% non-fossil fuel power capacity, five years ahead of its 2030 target.
