At IESW 2025, Piyush Goyal highlights solar growth, ₹1L cr fund, and urges stronger energy supply chain resilience.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, speaking at the 11th India Energy Storage Week (IESW) in New Delhi, revealed that India has achieved a 4,000% rise in installed solar capacity, now standing at 227 GW. He declared India likely the first G20 nation to meet its Paris Agreement NDC targets.
Goyal spotlighted India’s energy advancements, including the transformation of Palli in Jammu and Kashmir into the nation’s first carbon-neutral panchayat and the sustainable infrastructure of the IESW venue, Yashobhoomi. He announced a ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund to drive next-gen battery technologies and energy storage R&D.
The Minister outlined a four-point agenda for clean energy independence: targeted innovation, infrastructure development, supply chain resilience, and end-to-end value chain growth. He stressed the importance of battery innovation, EV infrastructure, and circular supply chains to reduce import dependency.
Goyal reaffirmed India’s goal of 500 GW renewable capacity by 2030, emphasizing storage technologies and local manufacturing as pillars of energy self-reliance and sustainable growth.
